The Doing" takes a unique approach to mediation. While we do rely on traditional mediation wisdom along with recent advances in the field, we also believe that relationships don't change until people take an active stance and DO something. Thus our name The Doing. So we ask all involved parties to commit themselves to action before mediation even begins.
This action must come from the parties themselves, though we can help them discover an action they'll commit to. If they're resistant or unwilling to compromise on a particular issue or different topic being mediated, an important action might be writing down the reasons that they cannot compromise or reach a consensus.
Action can represent an important step forward; often, a party will discover something about themselves and their interests during mediation. Other parties may better understand the needs and interests of others with whom they disagree. This is why we're sticklers about action.
We think this balance between encouraging people to take action and yet ensuring their action is of their choosing. Being involved in the process of mediation not only has an appeal to all participants but also increases the odds of meaningful success.
